Welcome¶
We, Berkay Dönmez and Kutay Dönmez, are identical twin brothers pursuing MSc. degree in Atmospheric Sciences at Istanbul Technical University. Our daily lives revolve around doing atmospheric researches, coding, exploring nature, and playing music.
WE BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF BEING A TEAM

About Me
I think that I am a musical meteorologist. You might have not ever heard of that title nor using those two words together. Let me explain to you the reason behind such an attachment. I was a little kid daydreaming of becoming a rockstar while studying hard for my university entrance exam. Whenever I felt overwhelmed, I would put on an earphone, playing the song on my guitar, looking up at the sky encompassed by ceaselessly moving rhythmic white clouds. Each time I had looked up there, I needed a further explanation on this simple however massive question: How does the Earth’s atmosphere operate in a way that has been astonishing ’us’ the people?
Years after, I find myself elaborately analyzing the enormous climate and meteorological data, exploiting novel spatial analysis tools and numerical models, to better understand and interpret the interaction among the Earth System components such as atmosphere, ocean, and hydrosphere. I’ve had the privilege to work with various professionals from the atmospheric science field whose knowledge and generosity encouraged me to consolidate my communication and scientific analysis skills.
I also have experience in exploring and investigating wind and power data, leveraging forecasts of numerous data providers in the wind energy sector. I enjoy creating visually engaging dashboards that are not only scientifically meaningful but also artistically pleasing. As Leonardo da Vinci once said, “simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” With a similar mindset, I cofounded the Climaturk platform, which provides both the researchers and students in Turkey with past severe weather analyses of Turkey and climatological indices using atmospheric variables such as temperature, moisture, and precipitation.
Apart from my scientific half, I am thrilled to play electric guitar and love singing. You should check my Instagram profile to watch my music covers with my colleague twin brother.

About Me
I was raised to think like an engineer and observe like an atmospheric scientist, which led me to develop new ideas to assist Climate Science. One of the those ideas was to create a website, Climaturk (https://climaturk.com/), that reveals the climate conditions of atmospheric variables in Turkey, using comprehensive statistical and thermodynamical methods. I processed the state-of-art climate data utilizing various data dtypes (NETCDF, HDF5, GRIB, CSV) with popular Python libraries (Xarray, Numpy, Pandas, Salem, Matplotlib) and visualized it to the end-user in very engagin ways.
I developed a Python library called Visjobs (https://pypi.org/project/visjobs/) (downloaded over 11.000 times according to pepy.tech) that makes it easy for atmospheric scientists to access model and observation data (ERA5, GFS, GEFS, NAM, GHCN) without even having to download them (OpenDAP).
At the International Congress on Global Climate Change held by Çanakkale 18 Mart University in May 2021, our paper, of which I am one of the authors, won the Most Innovative Paper Award.
